Our classrooms offer a safe, structured environment that accommodates a child's learning and choice. Within the classroom, there are spaces suited to group activity, and areas where a child can settle in alone. You won’t find the customary rows of school desks; children work at tables or on the floor, rolling out mats on which to work and define their workspace.
There are well-defined spaces for each part of the Montessori curriculum, such as Practical Life, Sensorial, Language, Maths and Culture. Each of these areas features shelves or display tables with a variety of inviting Montessori & educational materials from which a child can choose. And there is, of course, a place to escape with books, where a child can read or be read to. Our classrooms also incorporate the principles of Aistear and promote activities and learning that always ensure the child's communication, well being, identity & belonging, exploring & thinking are being met.
Each classroom is uniquely suited to the needs of the child. Each room has child-sized chairs and tables; a reading corner; reachable shelves; elements that allow independence and help develop motor skills. Each classroom is warm, well-organized, and inviting to help the child feel safe and calm.
We have dedicated classrooms to teach to 6 years of age with a minimum teacher: child ratio of 1:5 and maximum of 1:10. The Tusla recommended teacher: child ratio for an ECCE funded room is 1:11
